Scotmum is proud to support working mums and is keen to bring you a different, inspirational mum on a regular basis so that you can see how they manage to attain that elusive work/life balance. This week, Scotmum interviews Nanette who is 30 and from Northampton. Nanette lives with her husband, Russell and their daughter, Lily-Rose who will be three in August. Nanette runs on line baby boutique www.lily-rosedesigns.com and is pictured below with her god-daughter, Ruby (left) and daughter, Lily (right).

What is your profession and how many hours per week do you work?
I work 3 days, 25 hours a week in a bank, I also run my own business in my spare time or sleep time I think might be a better word.

Could you describe a typical day in your life?
My days at 'work' on a Tuesday-Thursday are the same drop Lily off at nursery, got to work, pick her up, have tea. Lily goes to bed and then I make my orders for a few hours, answer emails and then go to bed my self. On my days off from 'work' I spend my quality time with Lily we do anything from painting, cooking to go to the park and having picnics.

What do you feel are the pros and cons of being a working mother?
I never have enough time, I am sitting here and it is 12.45am I'm thinking I should of been in bed hours ago...But I needed to make orders ready to post tomorrow.

Why did you decide to branch out and work for yourself?
I love anything creative, when I went back to work i was a little board with the day to day back to normal life. I made a New Born Baby Gift for my god daughter and after that the work took off i first started selling gifts on Ebay and then decided to open my own website. By the time Lily goes to school i hope to do my little business full time i have many more ideas of where i want the business to go. Its just a matter of time & money to get me there.

What are your childcare arrangements?
Lily goes to nursery while I'm at work and then on my days off we spend together.

What would be your top tip for working mums in order to cope with the demands of their day to day lives?
Plan your time you need time for you as well as your partner and your children, be ready to put in long hours and sometimes you don't see any benefit in the beginning but it will soon pay off. Take your time and I do believe you can achieve any thing - this time last year I never even though I would be running my own business - but I am staring to believe that YES I can because I am doing it now.
